Established in 2012, the UCC Alumni Chapter in London runs a very successful series of seasonal events. Recent highlights include networking initiatives, a table quiz and "A Celebration of the Irish Contribution to Healthcare in the UK" which was hosted by the Embassy of Ireland in London as well as a screening of "Other Voices", held at the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith.
Mark Horne: Physics and Chemistry at UCC, Class of 1980 Mark Horne is currently EMEA Director of Sales at Trintech, a Dallas HQ Financial Services SaaS company with its genesis in Ireland. Mark is also President of ENSA, a Paris based not-for-profit consultancy, with a mission to use technology to break down barriers in education. Mark is a member of the Alumni Board at UCC, partly in thanks for the wonderful, 'formative' years undertaking a science degree at UCC.
Niall McCarthy: Business Information Systems at UCC, Class of 2015 Niall McCarthy is currently an Associate in Prime Services at Goldman Sachs. Niall graduated from UCC with a degree in Business Information Systems. When not lost in the O'Rahilly Building, or drinking coffee in the Glucksman café, Niall was involved in numerous societies ranging from entrepreneurial to political.
Aidan Neligan: Masters in Mathematics at UCC, Class of 1993 Medicine at UCC, Class of 2002
Dr Aidan Neligan is a Consultant Neurologist based at the Homerton Hospital in Hackney East London specialising in the managment of people with epilepsy, and continues to have an active research interest in Epilepsy Research in collaboration with the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology.
Elaine Hayes: Sports Studies and Physical Education with Mathematics at UCC, Class of 2012 Elaine Hayes works in an all girls school in East Berkshire, just outside London, teaching Maths and PE. From September 2020 she will be Head of Department for PE and will also lead her school’s digital learning strategy. Elaine completed a four year degree in Sports Studies and Physical Education with modules in Mathematical Studies. Given that the course was relatively new at that time, she had lectures in nearly every UCC building, including the newly opened Western Gateway Building. Elaine found the student experience and support throughout her time in UCC excellent.
Darren O’Brien: Commerce at UCC, Class of 1998 Higher Diploma in Computer Science at UCC, Class of 1999 Darren O’Brien is currently Technology Auditor at Vitality Group, a UK based Insurance company. His areas of study in UCC were Commerce, followed by a one year Diploma in Computer Science. Student life revolved around the Boole Lecture Theatres, Western Road and Boole Library, albeit in a possibly different order!
